I will be vacating Park La Brea apartments on Sept 4, 2013 and they are asking me to pay 2 months rent ($5328) for breaking the lease. I have been asked to pay 2 month rent for no fault of mine. Following is my story: My lease expired on August 5, 2013. Before my lease expired on August 5th 2013, I informed to the receptionist at the Administrative office that I am looking out for a rental apartment outside and I would be vacating soon from Park La Brea. I also asked her whether there are any exit formalities that I need to perform. She just told me that I need to give a 30 day notice period of vacating and I should be fine. On August 12, 2013, I went and informed the Administrative office that I would be vacating on Sept 4 2013 as I got a new apartment outside. They give me a 'Notice to Vacate' form to fill out and asked me to pay 2 month buy out ($5328) for breaking the lease. They did not give me 'Notice to Vacate' form to fill out during my first visit (before August 5, 2013) and gave me 'Notice to Vacate' form during my second visit (after August 5, 2013). Due to this negligence from Park La Brea Administrative office, they are asking me to pay 2 month buy out ($5328). This is highly unacceptable as I am being asked to pay penalty for no fault of mine.
