COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

I have proof via the previous occupant Courtney Hardcastle, the bedbugs were here before me. She attempted to solve the problem herself, failed and admittedly didn't mention them upon my moving in. Instead of being informed of the cost of service, my roommates and I received a standard eviction notice that did not state why we were being evicted simply that an unexplained $350.00 need be paid. My roommates and I have followed the bedbug instructions to the letter by doing the following: buying mattress covers, vacuuming the apartment daily, steaming furniture and carpet weekly, bagging our linen, washing our clothes two times a week and keeping the apartment free of clutter as to give the bedbugs no place to hide. The bedbug infestation has attracted other carnivorous insects that bite humans, spiders and earwigs. We are fearful of entertaining lest our friends and family manage to catch the infestation. My two roommates, my boyfriend and I have all lost sleep, had nightmares, accrued hundreds of bites, and are riddled with scars. The apartment is uninhabitable and has been for months.

LANDLORD / TENANT RESPONSES (2)
From Date IP Address Response
Renter Sep 22, 2012 67.184.8.245 The previous occupant informed the current tenants of her problem with the bed bugs after we moved into the apartment. The preparations for the exterminator were to keep the furniture away from walls and to wash any linens after spraying. vacuum after spraying, remove the bed covers, and vacuum every day after. I do not own the apartment, it is the responsibility of the landlords to keep the apartments inhabitable. I've spoken to the previous tenant and she will not be providing funds for a fumigation in a residence she was not the owner of. I find it completely unacceptable that we were forced to pay this through an eviction notice and I do require the $350.00 returned at the very least to resolve this matter.
