This letter was drafted and sent via Email on 2-22-17 regarding the decision that Harbor Inn apartments had given me. Unfortunately, I was not able to be present for the final move out inspection as additional work needed to be completed at my place of employment. Otherwise, I would have been present. Effective yesterday 2-28-17, at 6:22 AM, my keys and laundry card were turned into the rental office drop box along with my mail keys. Within 45 days I will be receiving my security deposit fully refunded. |

I remitted this Email on 2-17-17 at 1:40 P.M. in which I still have not received a response. This was in an attempt to see if the option of being transferred to a sister property can be revisited with a negotiable rate. |

This was me explaining my situation to the Vice President of Meredith Management . He indeed has delegated all resident authority to his assistant Mary. I can understand them not wanting me to renew for this apartment as the infestation needs to be cleaned professionally. However, they feel the best solution is to eliminate me all together there. I feel as if they are perceiving me as a troublemaker when all I was trying to do was negotiate fairly. This is highly unfair to be treated this way and as a result I have nowhere to go. |

This is a copy of the non-renewal response received from Mary. I firmly believe that this is a form of retaliation because I exercised my rights as a legal tenant. It makes sense that they would not want me to be in this unit as the infestation needs to be professionally cleaned up in my kitchen. |

At this juncture, I had sent an Email to Code Enforcement to justify that I had seen where the infestation was coming from and to include that maintenance did not do anything to remedy the caked on roach fecal matter in my kitchen. |

At this juncture, I sought a legal consultation and was advised to contact Code Enforcement to have them make the final analysis and deem if there was a legitimate infestation. |

At this juncture, I had thanked them for exterminating and a friend of mine at work said I could stay with her but I did want to just move out and suffer the consequences of breaking a lease so I tried bargaining in a desperate attempt to see if they would just let go. My nerves were shot by that point. |

At this juncture, I had wanted to obtain a copy of the exterminator report as I had adequate reason to substantiate that I did have a roach infestation. I was verbally told by Dodson pest control there was not an infestation as they only saw 1 roach. I wanted to see if my renters insurance would cover it because I was under so much stress and was scared to sleep that night because a roach had crawled in my ear the day before. I knew I could not just move out because I would be in violation of my lease. |

At this juncture, I had received a voicemail in which I still have saved from Tiffany indicating that they would allow me to transfer to a sister property. At the time, I had so much anxiety running throughout my body as I was seeing roaches left and right. Maybe my offer was steep? Please understand, I had encountered a roach crawl into my ear and had to leave work early. My demands might have been high at the time but I am deathly afraid of insects and I am on anxiety medication. |

I had taken videos on my phone of roaches and tried sending them to my Email to attach to Mary the Director of Property Management. Unfortunately, the videos would not send. Therefore, I could not attach. ***I still have them in my phone and will provide them upon request. |

I had gone online to send an Email on 1-29-17 to explain my situation. I sent a screenshot confirmation for my records to prove it was sent.The very next morning I called the rental office and Tiffany indicated she did not receive my Email. I thought that was odd considering I sent a screenshot confirmation to myself as proof. |

I firmly believe that Meredith Management should do something to accommodate me as a result of having a Code Enforcement deemed roach infestation within my dwelling. Harbor Inn elected not to renew my lease in which they are withholding the reason. An option for me to move to a sister property was once brought up. My counterargument to that was, it is not fair that I should had to move and be forced to pay a much higher rent due to an infestation that was NOT caused by me personally nor should I have to incur the physical stress of a move at my expense. I cannot wrongfully accuse but only speculate that the reason for them not wanting to renew my lease is due to me contacting Code Enforcement. As I discussed with the complex, my sole reason for doing that was to obtain a second opinion. To their credit, an exterminator did come out to bomb my apartment. However, Dodson pest Control indicated there was not a roach infestation in which I have adequate proof to disprove that. As a desperate attempt, as well as to prove my point, I exercised my legal rights by contacting Code Enforcement. Hopefully RPA will be able to sit down and mediate and be able to help implement a plan to assist me. This is unfair to me and based on correspondence received, it seems as if they simply just want me to leave which is unfair. they are not taking into account the quality of life I have had to live. I couldn\\\'t even have my own children over because they like myself are deathly afraid of insects. Secondary to that, I have had to spend every weekend cleaning up roaches alive and dead ones as well as roach fecal matter. In addition, there was an encounter in which a roach crawled into my ear .As a result,I had to leave work to have it looked at. I have been a good tenant, clean, do not cause a disturbance, have a decent paying job, and do not engage in any unlawful misconduct within my dwelling. From the start, I have been treated unfairly when I indicated a possibility of exercising my legal rights such as Code enforcement, and/or contacting the media. Again, I firmly believe they are retaliating against me due to exercising my legal rights in the state of Virginia. I am willing to comply with sending any pictures, letters, videos, etc. to support this claim. They seem to be doing all they can to avoid the problem and make me appear to be \\\"the unhappy tenant\\\". In closing, never once did I use profane language regarding this matter to any parties affiliated. |
