COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
The Landlord is being hostile and refusing to budge on making major renovations to the premises while we still have close to a month left on our lease. Despite our protests and insistence that we still occupy and spend time at the premises and plan to continue to until the remainder of our lease (they've already cashed the final rent check), they have made it clear they are going to proceed to rip up the carpets leaving us with nothing but the kitchen and basement (no bedrooms, living room, etc..) as well as do major plasterwork and painting to the bathroom and kitchen areas. We still live there, we are still under lease, and we have paid our rent. Wisconsin State Statute 799.40 Section 4 Article B states that the landlord may not engage in any act that makes the premises unfit to occupy, which any of these circumstances do. We feel that they have our rent money and are now trying to rush us out the door to turn the unit around as quickly as possible at the cost of our ability to occupy the property that we are legally renting. We only ask that they cease attempts to ready the premises for the next tenants until we are no longer our legal rental property, as State Law clearly intends. She claims it is her property and she can make any repairs she wants anytime she wants, completely ignoring the fact that these are in fact major internal renovations that completely interrupt occupancy. We paid full rent for the entirety of the complex, not to be relegated to a kitchen and basement because every other room has major work being done. Again, all we would like is to be left alone instead of being harassed on almost a daily basis about how they are going to come in and do the repairs regardless of the law or our wishes. The matter is escalating and communications between all parties involved are only becoming more hostile. We only wish to be left in peace for the last few weeks of our tenancy.
