COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
My lease began May 1st, 2013. In June I had some roaches in the kitchen and bathroom. Right away I alerted management and was assured this was unheard of in the building and it would be resolved. What no one knew is the cabinets in the kitchen are not fully attached to the wall which leaves a gap. When maintenance sprayed above and on top of these the white powder got over 80% of my dry foods and all the dishes. All unsealed food had to be thrown away and my dishes needed to be washed. Management's resolution to this was taking $75 off of my next month rent for the food I lost but would not reimburse me for cleaning supplies or the 6 hours it took to clean up. 3 additional times I saw a roach in the kitchen and informed management. Each time my unit was sprayed and that was that. I have also used a more natural remedy of bay leaves wrapped in dryer sheets. The smell is said to help with roaches and other bugs.
Now to final bell. Last night when I arrived home from work it was time to make dinner. I cooked some food and did a basic pick-up but like most people I wanted to enjoy my meal while it was hot. After eating I brought my plate to the kitchen and there was a roach next to the sink. I sprayed it into the sink and killed it. Then I not only cleaned up from my meal but also gave the kitchen a real scrub. When I moved the tilted plastic tray that sits beneath my dish drain there was quite a few droppings which tells me there have been visits in the last few weeks. I have had enough and am ready for a change. When I called this morning to once again tell management about this problem I was told to the solution is to have a professional come spray rather than continue treatments used by maintenance. I was told there may be bugs in places we can't see and maybe a nest that a professional would be better skilled to destroy. I set up an appointment for the upcoming Tuesday and was told to remove all the food and dishes from my cabinets. I also cannot put the food back in for 12 to 24hours after treatment.
This unit has been sprayed every few months since I moved in. Following this pattern it might need another dose when April come around. I am paying to live here, relax and feel at home. This was not provided by management during my experience here. By ended my lease early it will give management to fully clean and spray the unit without disrupting a tenants daily life.
