COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

I noticed the neighbor to my left appeared to have moved out. (She had been there less than 1 yr.) I noticed the neighbor across from her had started moving furniture to the dumpster, which is located just in front of my window. The neighbor moving the furniture has a family of approximately 4-5 people. The furniture appeared to be rather new & this family had been in their apartment less than 1 year as well. Not long after I noticed the family had moved furniture out (sofa, bed, dresser, etc.), I started receiving bite marks. I thought they were from mosquitos but the itching was so intense & I never saw any mosquitos. The bites were on my arms, wrists, shoulders, face. I thought they could be bed bugs & I did actually find 3 bugs- 2 were dead. I found one of the dead bugs on my living room floor & the other on my sofa. The 3rd bug I found (a couple of nights later) was alive and was between the living room and dining room (perhaps on its way to my bedroom). I was able to capture the live bug and I put it, along with the 2 dead ones, into a plastic baggie. I went to the rental office & told them. The customer service rep/office person told me the family on my floor had a "really big problem" with bed bugs. She said they did not comply with the office's requests in order for them to come and treat the apartment. She said the family had to leave. (I assume they were evicted?) They had someone come to my apartment (I believe the housekeeper for the apartment complex & Mr. Rose, the property mgr/owner). The office person called me & confirmed that the bugs were bed bugs. I expressed my deep disappointment & how I felt I should have been notified when the family had an infestation & left the complex & how the other person on my floor apparently left. I am having a terrible time dealing with this- I am losing so much sleep thinking about the bugs feeding on me. I worry that they are in my car, that I might unknowingly take them to work. I have no way to move my bed, sofa, etc. to the dumpster as I live alone. I started purchasing a few things to prepare for treatment (bags for clothes, which I must launder), covers for my mattress/box springs. (I have 2 BR, so two beds.) This is all very expensive & I simply do not have it. I must also kennel my pets since they can't be there for treatment. I was offered a laundry card for $78 but I don't use the apt machines due to numerous roaches in laundry room and the machines don't always work well.

LANDLORD / TENANT RESPONSES (3)
From Date IP Address Response
Renter Jul 31, 2013 208.54.35.170 I accept the landlord's response to #1- release from rental agreement without penalties or negative remarks on credit reports and my full return of my security

Renter Jul 31, 2013 208.54.35.170 Explain why you can't accept / Offer Alternative Resolution.

Renter Jul 24, 2013 208.54.35.162 My lease expires in January. If you won’t let me out of my lease early, then I feel I should be granted a credit equal to one month’s rent. This is so much less than what I’ve lost (and still stand to lose) all because you apparently did not want to reveal my neighbors’ problem, presumably because: 1) you didn’t want to get the other tenants in the building and/or complex upset, 2) you don’t want to spend money to make the apartments habitable. I feel I have been a very decent tenant. I feel I deserve a response from management and an agreeable resolution to all the pain, costs, and sleepless nights that I've endured due to this issue.

Landlord Jul 19, 2013 76.124.92.141 Offer an Alternative Resolution.
