COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
I did basic move in inspection on the morning of 31 Jan 2013 and moved in in the afternoon. While i was doing my move in inspection i asked the manager if this apartment has any pest problem. She said NO. On night of 2/1/2013 i saw white powder underneath my both bathroom and kitchen sink. I didn't get good feeling so i took a picture and showed it to the manager and again asked if they were/are treating for any kind of pests. The manager again said that there were no problems. Then i unpacked my belongings on (saturday and sunday) 2/1/2013-2/2/2013 with the help of my Girl friend. On Wednesday she told me that she has rashes on her body and signs of bites (i have picture).
On Thursday night, I saw few (4) tiny little insects crawling on my bed. I took picture and googled if they were bedbugs. Alas, they were bedbugs. I went to the manager and told her that my unit is infested with bedbugs. They started spraying my apartment but i would see few dozens every night. I started getting sick from the chemicals they were spraying in my apartment. I asked them to transfer me to different unit because i couldn't live in the apartment seeing more than dozens of bedbugs and smell of the chemical. Manager told me that they don't have any Units available at that time ( This is a lie i can prove it ). I also asked/requested them to break my lease, since they hide/withhold the pest history in the unit( i can prove).
I continued to suffer from bed bugs and the stress associated with it. Then the management decided to give me $50 off of march rent for the trouble i am going through and they also told me that if i break my lease i will have to pay the financial consequences of breaking the lease. So, i accepted the offer and felt helpless. I tried to avoid going to the apartment as much as i could by staying at friends place or staying at work. There has been nights where i have left the apartment at mid-night because i couldn't stay there.
Just a week ago, they rented the apartment next to mine that was being sprayed for bedbugs(i can prove it). They broke that lease few days ago(I can prove it). The management first said that they would treat for 14 days after treatment started and would decide about breaking my lease, then they extended to march 8 and then march 20 and now they are saying they will decide after april 1.
I started renting another place from 15, but i still have my infested belongings in the apartment.
I need Help.
Shiva.
