COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
Upon moving into our apartment in June, my roommate noticed several bites on her arms and legs. We switched detergents to see if that was perhaps the problem. At the time, I had not moved anything into the apartment and was staying at my aunt's house just outside of town. One day, she was napping after work and woke up to find a bed bug on her. Upon further inspection, she found several bed bugs in her room and on her mattress. The bed had been in her childhood home for several years, and her parents have since inspected the house to see if the bugs came from there. They did not. We brought the problem to the attention of the leasing office and their general pest management company sprayed two separate times for the bugs. My roommate has since thrown away her bed and luggage and removed all clothing from the apartment as she is spending a few months out of state. I threw away all of my bedding and purchased all new sheets, pillows, and blankets. I also put all of my clothing through a high heat dryer because research I had done told me this should kill any bugs that were on them. I noticed that I had been waking up with bites last week and found bugs on my new mattress (purchased in July) and my new bedding (purchased in late August). I threw the bedding away again and have been staying with friends. I contacted the office again and they said they would call their pest company. I called again today (because I hadn't heard anything in a week) and was told I would either have to wait for their pest company to be free or contact an exterminator on my own and pay for it "because we must have brought the bugs in on (my roommate's) mattress." When we called an exterminator to get a quote when we first noticed the bugs, we were told it would cost $800. With the costs we have already incurred to replace our furniture and bedding, and the inconveniece of not being able to stay at our own apartment without waking up with bites and bumps, we would like this problem resolved for good.
