COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

Soon after moving into the premises, a bed bug infestation was discovered. When we notified our property management company (Semper Fi) of this issue we were told that they would not be responsible for any treatment or removal of the pests. We believe this constitutes a breach of the implied habitability warrenty that requires tenants to be provided a safe, livable environment. Bed bugs are classified as a parasite and are therefore more of a safety threat than most other pests. The total cost for necessary treatment is estimated to be $1900. This is an insurmountable amount for a family expecting a new baby and must be covered by management to guarantee our safety. If this problem is not handled in a timely fashion, as is required by law, we request early lease termination without penalty.
