COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
We recently moved out of this apt. We cleaned well, had the carpets professionally cleaned, and hadn't done damage other than normal wear and tear. We lived here for two years. The landlords kept nearly $500 of our deposit. According to the AK landlord/tenant act, they were in violation. Though we had the carpets cleaned by a reputable cleaner, they had them redone and charged us $150. They also changed out a doorknob that we had not changed or damaged because (they said and I have in writing) that they wanted the doors to all have matching locks. A lot will be my word against theirs, but I do have a letter from them showing what all they did, plus receipts. They charge us for missing sink drains even though we never had any in the apt. I had purchased a dishpan and mesh drains so food wouldn't go down. They charged us for wiping down the walls ($180) even though we had already done it, to replace a handle that we hardly used on a sliding glass door ($86), etc. We hardly used this door, because it just went out to a postage stamp sized porch with no steps to get off of it.

LANDLORD REFUSAL: Despite repeated attempts both written and verbal, the Landlord/ Manager has refused to respond to the complaint. Due to the landlords refusal to cooperate with RPA Mediation, the RPA has no choice but to close this case. The tenant will need to seek other legal options such as court. |
