Who should pay?
By Nny
I recently discovered that I had a bed bug infestation. Not being allergic to their bites meant that I didn’t notice them until the infestation got sizable. I notified my management office and my office manager since two had been found on my desk that same day.
My office manager insisted that I use their exterminator so they could be sure the infestation would not come back to work and my apartment manager told me that I am legally not allowed to use any exterminator other than their. I saw nothing in the lease about this, but I seem to be powerless in this matter. As a result of not being able to use the exterminator my office wanted, I was terminated. I am also being held responsible for the costs of the extermination (which I have been told can take up to 4 visits at $400 a visit).
Seeing how I was not allowed to use my office exterminator am I responsible for the costs? The treatment my apartment did receive was not a heat treatment and I found 3 bed bugs upon returning to my apartment following the treatment. I want a proper heat treatment and from what I understand this is the landlord’s financial responsibility.
Is this correct?
