Unit in my complex has bed bugs and i was not notified by my landlord

By Jami Czop

I moved into my apartment less than a month ago. Today, tenants on the third floor of my building were trashing all of their belongings. When I asked if they were moving, they informed me that they have bed bugs and have had them since January. My question is, I moved in on May 5th, and was never informed that tenants in my building had bed bugs. I feel like I should have been. All of my furniture is new, and from what I understand, the bed bugs have spread to the econd floor. I live on the first floor. I’m concerned for my self and my roommates. Any advice?

First, talk to your landlord if he can have exterminators come to your apartment. If it is confirmed that you are not infested yet, you should move out ASAP, your landlord can’t hold that against you because you were not informed of the bed bug infestation.
