Return of Security Deposit

By

My husband and I are having an issue with our previous landlord, and i’m not sure where to go from here. We have lived at our new place for just over 2 months now, moving here on Aug. 28, and had our walkthrough with our previous landlord on Sept 4, i had sent him a notice for date and time of walk thru return certified just in case. He and his wife both showed, landlord proceeded to throw a fit and upset us a lot. We had lived in this place for 3 years, i have looked up the things that he said he was deducting for and they are considered normal wear and tear. There were just a few minor things that i expected him to deduct but not the total of 550, such as a hole in a bedroom door where closet door had overlapped room door while moving, which i assume is a quick fix. It is my understanding that within 30 days he is required to send us an itemized statement including copies of paid receipts to justify keeping our deposit, and 15 days after that to send deposit back if he failed on the first part. On Oct 9 i went ahead and sent a letter requesting the deposit back also return certified thru the post office, I received the signed card back on Oct 14. It is Nov 3 and i have yet to receive anything else. I am not sure what the next step is in this process, what do i do?
