Problem with Landlord Repairs, Maintenance of Bldg., Bldg. Security

By Richerson

There have been a myriad of instances of the past three years wherein my landlord is in violation.  Among them, a roof problem that has gone untended for two years, not providing heat in a snowstorm, numerous water shutoffs, not maintaining locks and doors to building.  Water has been shutoff for the second day. Calls to the Landlord remain unanswered.

Last year the landlord attempted to evict me because I withheld rent to pay for the roofing repairs; however, there is still a serious leaking due to structural problems with the roof. The landlord does not even inspect the problem.

This is a six unit building.

Hi Richerson! I understand what you are feeling right now. It sucks really to deal with landlords like this. It is your landlord’s responsibility to make maintenance repairs on the rental unit and since this problem of yours is going on for quite some time now then it is best if you file a complaint against your landlord. You can either file your complaint through your local county or through the RPA. If it were me, I would definitely file a complaint with the RPA. They give fast and prompt resolutions too plus it is cheaper than filing through your local county.
