Problem getting my AC fixed by landlord
By civicgirl101
I just moved in to my first apartment and AC is not working. I have contacted the front office and the maintenance man and nothing has been done. I moved in 8-21-10 and it is now 8-24-10. So it is going on four days with no AC. The thermostat is reading eighty five degrees in the apartment. What do I do? On the third day that we complained to the office they told me that there is nothing we can because the owner is not even paying us to work in the office. Is there anything I can do? The office will not give me the owner’s number that owns the apartment complex. Should we refuse to not pay rent until fixed? Or buy law how long do they have to get it fixed? Also I talked to a woman that was moving out when I was moving in and she said that the guy that just moved out of our apartment was living there without AC for a month that’s why he moved out. Now I am stuck with the non-working AC. They have known about the AC not working for over a month now.

I can’t imagine living in a place without an AC. That must have been so inconvenience for you. You need really to get a hold of the owner/landlord for this to be fixed. Tenants should look over the property but in terms of any damage like in this case, the AC is not working before you even moved in, the owner should know about it and should fix it. Make sure to secure a proof of such issue is existing and go over your lease agreement to verify. In cases that you really can’t get a hold of that owner, you can ask assistance through a legal personnel or you visit this site http://www.rentalprotectionagency.com/complaint_center.php for any alternative help regarding your complaint. |
