Paying for polluted water…

By Mrsweasely

I live in a community where I pay land rent for the modular home we own.  The $360 a month fee is supposed to include water, sewage, and trash pick up.  I have been very ill since Sept., and after various blood work and other tests the doctor is doing an endoscope into my stomach this coming Monday to find out why I have been so sick.    We had received a notice a couple weeks ago that DEP said the landlord’s chlorine filtration system was not working.  A week without water (and the landlord did not supply any to the tenants either-not even bottled water.) Once the water was back online it occassionally reaked of chlorine (not surprisingly, tenants have seen the landlord going into the well house with a big tub of chlorine tabs and tossing them in instead of paying the money to put in a decent system.) Last night we received another notice to not drink the water until further notice (again no alternate bottled water provided.)  This time is was two notices…the first stating unsafe chlorine levels (4 mg. is a safe level…ours is 11mg.) which was dated at the bottom with the proper date..11/12.  Then the other notice states E COLI has been found in the water on 11/11/2010!  We received the warning a DAY LATER  11/12/2010 than it had been found! (which I noticed they left the date received area on the bottom of the paper BLANK!)

I am incredibly ill and have four children (who have had headaches and stomach ailments on and off these past few months.)  There are many senior citizens who live here and a friend who lives in this development has a two year old with a heart condition and another child with a kidney issue…and we have all been drining this tainted water!!!  What can we do?  We are paying to get sick!  The people who live in this community are not wealthy and having to buy water and pay for doctor bills and meds in this economy is financially crippling..plus being sick has caused me to loose days from work. We need clean water-HELP!!!
