Noise problems.
By Katy
So, I moved into my first apartment about 3 months ago. All was well…UNTIL this group of young guys, we imagine they’re all about 18 or 19, just graduated from high school, and all moved in together. Our room mates met one of them, and we all figured off of that. Anyways, since they day they’ve moved in it’s been a nightmare. I can’t even classify it as noise, cause it’s not noise. I can drown out noise. This is base. I don’t know if they are in a band, they are learning the bass, or if they really like electronic base based music. But all day, off and on. Sometimes from early as 9 in the morning, and sometimes until as late as 2 in the morning. They play this bass. It fills my entire apartment, Sometimes I can’t even play my music over it. It shakes the floors, it just….there. I don’t even know how to really explain it to anyone. It’s become more and more unnerving as time goes on. I made my first complaint to the complex about 5 days ago. They said that they had told them, it continued, I called to make sure it had actually been registered, they said they’d call again. It continued. This morning I went back to the office, made another complaint. It was 9 in the morning, I had barely slept. I called and made them tell them right NOW that they tell them to turn it down. I thought the third time would do the charm. But no, it’s still continuted. I want to go down there and tell them myselves, because apparently the office doesn’t do anything.

I moved into my apt 2 months ago. The apt has hardwood floors and I am on the first floor. The renters above me have a 3 year old child who runs constantly and it sounds as if a herd of horses are running. And the worst part is that the renters’ bed is directly above me and I hear them about 3 times a day. This is an embarrassing situation, but their bed squeaks very loudly and they wake me up all hours of the night. I have spoken to the manager 3 times. She said she would talk to them, but nothing has changed. The noise is VERY distracting. What rights do I have? She said I could move to a 3rd floor apt, but I don’t feel that I should be the one to have to move and also I cannot afford to move. Please help!

You have the right to the “quiet enjoyment of your home.” I recently complained about similar behavior to my landlord. Just because people want to rent on a 2nd floor with children doesn’t mean they should. I wrote a letter of complaint to my landlord and the problem is fixed. |
