New policy renters pay for water to water grounds – we don’t control

My landlord (huge apartment complex) paid for water when I first signed a lease, but with an increase in water cost they have shifted this cost to tenants. In the growing season they water the sizeable grounds, and I pay for this water too. Of course, I have no say in the amount they water, and I know they waste a lot of water, which I pay for. I just got my June bill and it’s double.

Are they allowed to bill us for something we have no say in? Even though all tenants pay a pro-rated amount of water (no separate meters), we can at least choose to take long or short showers.

Please let me know my tenant rights on this matter, thank you.

I live in big complex in Florida. Our water/sewer/trash removal charged by square footage, not by number of persons in unit. As a single tenant in a particular 2/2, I’m paying same monthly charge as family of four in same size unit down the hall. Being ripped off royally, and landlord making a fortune off overcharging for trash removal. I’m told if I don’t like it I can move. No power…landlords have it all.
