lost in the dark
By joymorgan
I work nights and my porch light has been leaking water. It has been over a week since it was looked at. I was told that the owner would have to be contacted to decide what to do about the problem. I have called three times since they have looked at it and feel like I am being put off. I do not know what to do about it. I do not like getting off work at four o’clock in the morning and coming home to pure darkness. Please help. What do I do?

Hi Joy. We renter’s actually has rights for minor repairs. Your landlord is the one responsible to keep your rental place in convenience. It’s often harder to enforce your rights to minor problems than the major ones. Here are some proven strategies for getting landlords to take care or minor repairs. One is you can approach him verbally, if it doesn’t work then go ahead and write a repair request. By doing this you will have a chance relate the problem clearly. Most of the landlords are sensitive to security issues so you can be sure to point out any security risks created by the problem. If the problem causes inconvenience to other tenants don’t forget to emphasize that. If this won’t work then you can file a complaint to RPA (Rental Protection Agency) or even worst sue your landlord. Goodluck! |
