Locked Out Of the Complexes Securtiy Gate Without Notice

Jenc74  I need to know if I handled a Landlord issue correctly.  Last month My manager of the apartments I live in decided to drop my gate code from the comlexes computer and I came home late one night to my gate opener not working.  Thinking the gate was stuck I went to the other side of the complex to wait to go in on that side.  You dont park on the street in the part of Sacramento that I live in.  I ended up waiting approx. 45 mins and finally someone came out and I was able to co in on the wrong side of the complex.  Atleast I was inside the gate though.  I went to my apt. and thought why not ask my neighbor to try her gate opener to see if it stuck or just my opener.  My neighbor checked and her opner opend the gate first shot.  mine would only make the gate box beep.. she checked the battery and the opner is working fine.  We found out the next day that I was not the only one who could not get in the gate.  So i sent my first demand letter asking that the code be reprogramed back in so I can access the gate freely.  that was 9/29 I had been locked out n the 27 I received no response.  so on 10/1 when my rent was again due i sent my last demand letter and said if it was not corrected i would then be withholding my rent until it was reprogrammed i then left and returned later that night to a note on my door from their attorney.  it was a threat that if i didnt surrentder the premises or sign a promise letter by the 4 and vacate by the 8th they would evict me.  i had been in the processof moving but when i couldnt get in and out of the gate i stopped the moving process and then lost my new rental because i couldnt move any other belongings out. the manager has harrassed threatened to tow my operational vehicle and has yet to fix the gate code.  i am fighting the eviction but i just want to know i was told by the housing authority here that locking me out of the gate was considered an illegal lock out because you cant get to your apt if you cant get in the gate.  i have had to park on the streets a few times and my car was vandalized on one of those nights.  can i also ask that theybe ordered to repair the damage done to my car because i couldnt get it in the gate because she locked me out in hopes of making me just leave
