landlord wont respond
By mamamartin
I’ve lived in the same apartment for 8 months now. I have never been late on rent. I signed a 12 month lease. The end of April my bathtub faucet began to develop a slow leak. Called and reported the problem. Maintenance was here the next day to fix it. Then, a few weeks later. It began to leak again, a little worse. So far it was the cold water leaking. Maintenance came back though it did take a few days longer. He said if he had to come back he would have to replace entire faucet. This time the knobs were so tight I had to have my husband turn the water off and on for me and our kids. When it began to leak again it was Hot water. So it began to run up my gas bill as well as the water. It was "fixed" again, each time by the same guy. It began to leak again! Hot water again. So we got to where we would just do what we had to do and turn the water off at the main, which had also started to leak. Then, the 16th of June, it happened. The main knob began spewing water all over my laundry room. It was on Sunday around 6pm. I called landlord and she did answer. When I told her what was up she gave me "the owner’s" number and told us to call and tell him. We did. He said No one could come out until Monday or Tuesday because the maintenance guy was in Michigan. We waited til Tuesday, still no one showed up. We called again. Landlord said she made the work order that morning and Acted surprised that no one had been by to look at it. It is now Friday night the 21st and no one has been here to fix it. The maintenance man was in our building Thursday morning to work on something upstairs but never once stopped by our apartment. I have two small children. One is 2 years, the other 5 months. I cannot wash clothes, wash dishes, cook, or even use the bathroom or brush our teeth without flooding my laundry room. There has got to be something I can do. Please help me!
Thank you for your time.

It is your landlord’s responsibility to do maintenance repair on the rental unit. Since your landlord refuse to do the repairs then you can file a complaint against your landlord. You have two options on how you can file your complaint.; you can either file your complaint through your local county or through the RPA. Filing a complaint with the RPA is much cheaper than filing a complaint through your local county. What ever option you choose, it will surely give you a resolution to your concerns. Good Luck! |
