False advertising

By kay

My child leased his first apartment last July, along with 3 of his college friends. I was not present when he signed his lease. He was told when he paid his deposit that he would receive one month free to come at the end of the lease. I wasn’t present when the lease was signed, and I have not seen it. I am supposed to receive a copy tomorrow. My problem is, the last month of rent is upon us, and the management has informed all parties that they have no memory of one month free.

I called yesterday, and a young girl that works there acted clueless, but admitted that several students living there had been complaining about the same thing. Her logic was, the management subtracted the free month from the rent overall, and then re-divided the reduced number for lower rent all year.

This makes no sense because, the rent is exacty the same as pre-discount. It was never lowered. And I remember a sign up in front of the apartments for several months  that stated "One month free". The sign dissapeared a couple of months ago.

Also, current rent for new lease is the same as my son pays now. There are several students upset by this, as they did not budget for it. I have a feeling it is not on the lease. My son got a packet from them, but did not check it until this became an issue. There were many papers included, but a copy of his lease was not one of them. I know he was naive, and I wish I had been there.

This sounds like classic bait and switch to me.
