bed bugs after 2 weeks can we get out of lease?
By g342
My husband and I just moved into a 40 yr old duplex 2 weeks ago. Although this is an old house it looks nice it was freshly painted, new carpet and a new toilet sink and tub and new cabinents. When i put my shower curtain up as we were moving in I saw a bug on it, I told my husband about it and we killed it and that was it. A couple days after we started sleeping here I woke up with a scratchy bump on my foot, and another morning with one on my arm but didn’t think too much about it. Then again in the bathroom I saw another bug that looked like the first one that was on the shower curtain, so i flushed it. Then one morning my husband woke up and there was a bug under him and it was kind of see thru and had a red area in the center and he smushed it and blood came out. I woke up this morning and have another scratchy bump on me, so I looked on the internet at bed bug pictures and info and sure enough they look the same and we are having syptoms of bed bugs. We signed a year lease and have given the $900 security deposit and $900 first months rent for the month of December and the landlord said we could move in at the most 5 days before the 1st . Now that there are bed bugs we want to get out as soon as we can before any of our furniture gets too infested. How do we approach our landlord (who lives in the other half of the duplex) and can we get out of the lease and get our money back since we have only been here two weeks, and what if he trys to say we brought them with us, which we definately did not… Please help!
