Apartment rented with termites
By marykatem
I have been leasing my apartment for a year, and have noticed wood shavings showing up inside the wall area by the door, and by the
door frame of main entry door, however we never thought anything of it. We just noticed swarms of flying bugs coming from a crack in
the window area of bedroom. Bedroom was filled with bugs last week. They sent maintence down and said there just bugs and will go
away. Never contacted us again. Fast forward one week and my roomate and I noticed houndreds of bugs coming from the same area
flying around every where in room. Someone came down to help move stuff out of our bedroom, as we couldn’t enter the entire bedroom
it was so bad. He at first told us that pest control wasn’t going to come for two days, which we demanded it be done quicker as well as
the fact of where were going to stay. He gave us the run around saying theres nothing he can do multiple times, however I manged to
convice him to let us stay in a business suite in the complex. Today they found two seperate areas of termites, and never gave us any
notice as to what chemicals they used and what they found, not knowing toxicity of chemicals. I had to keep calling, and they said there
going to replace the door frame and try to fix the nest area tomorrow. He wouldn’t have withheld all of that information, and went on to
say that cleaning crew will come later, and were going to need your keys back. We later went into apartment and saw there were still
bugs in apartment, and they never fumigated the apartment just sprayed we think which won’t fully treat the bugs. He’s sending us back
into apartment with bugs still there, we should be staying in the suite longer, and be reimbursed for days of rent. However I have been
doing lots of research and realized they have violated health codes, and with leasing a uninhabitable apartment in the first place. Also it’s
very serious since there are two nests. We want to switch rooms, becasue we don’t feel it’s a safe place to live since they keep coming
back.
