sewage backup in single family dwelling. What is fair to expect for compensation.
By neil
I am 5 months into a 12 month lease in a single family dwelling, and for the 4th time in as many months, the sewer has backed up into the hallway, complete with toilet paper and fecal slurry.
..and this time it made it into the bedrooms.
It’s important to note, that this is not a mom and pop who is renting out their old starter home. We rent from a quickly growing corporation that buys up foreclosed homes, does the bare minimum restoration and repair, and then rents the dwellings out.
Suffice it to say , I am not happy.
though they have dispatched plumbers the same day, each time, I think it is time to part ways with this house.
Financially, I have not come even close to recovering from the move TO this house, and have neither the cash nor credit to finance a relocation on my own right now.
I dont want to stay here anymore.
I am not particularly intrested in going to court, and I am sure the landlord doesnt want to either.
My question is: What , if anything is fair to ask of my landlord for compensation for the hassle of having your bath, hall and part of your bedrooms damp with raw sewage? and spending your saturdays cleaning up after the mess?
If further info is needed, I will respond inline to the forum
