garage door opener broke and fell on car

By Bill R

My garage door opener broke loose and dented the top of my car. My renter’s insurance claim office says since it is furnished equipment with the apartment, the landlord should  be responsible. Only been in unit since Feb.2013, in that time,6 outlets replaced, water leak on washer outlets, oven temp could not be adjusted, roaches, AC and furnace didn’t work, carpets not cleaned after previous renter left, garage door was adjusted right after move in, but only one bolt was holding it up when it broke. The other bolt was nowhere to be found. All have been taken care of but stove. Waiting on new one. Oh …move in was only 1 week after previous tenant moved out. who is responsible for car damage?
