How to find an apartment for your pet
By Tenant
Many families like to have a dog or a cat around for security purposes or for companionment. However, not every landlord allows families to have pet in their rental unit. Finding a place where the whole family and your pet are welcome to live is quite nerve wrecking. Here are some tips on how to find a perfect place for you and your pet.
- Check for any apartment listing in the area where you want to live. There are many ways to check for apartments, you can surf through the net, your local newspaper or any real estate publications and even ask your friends and relatives if they know any apartment listings. The more options you have the better for your chances of finding a perfect pet friendly place for you.
- Cross out the list where there are “no pets allowed”. You do not want to have any apartment on your list that does not allow any pets in the property.
- Visit the apartments that allows pet. If ever you had already find an apartment you want that allows pet call the apartment owner and schedule an onsite visit. This way you can save your time and you do not have to negotiate with the landlord over your pet.
- Arrange for the landlord to meet your pet. Once the landlord agrees to let you rent his property with your pet arrange a date maybe a dinner or coffee for him to meet your pet. This way you can show your landlord what kind of pet you have and at the same time you can show off how well-behave your pet is.
- Be responsible. If everything goes well, always remember to be responsible. Put in mind all the hassles you had gone through just to have the apartment you have right now. Follow the lease agreement you had with your landlord and take responsibility for your pet.

I don?t understand why apartments charge so much for my rent plus my pet?s rent plus other fees. Can?t they just lower my rent so I can be able to pay for every other thing that they are charging? |

I think I just settle with a stuffed bear instead of a cat. It is way cheaper than a pet. |

In a landlord point of view we are really not hard hearted and pet haters. We also like pets we just want to protect our investment for that is our source of income. |
