Storage Space Living
By Tenant
Many find it weird to hear and see people living in their own cars but what is weirder is when you see and hear people renting a storage unit not to store their stuffs but to personally live in it. It may be weird for those who can afford to rent an apartment complex but not to those who can only afford to rent a storage unit.
Here are some of the problems you will encounter when you are living in a storage unit:
- You can be arrested with trespassing. It is illegal to live in a storage unit. If you read the lease agreement you signed when you rented a storage unit, it clearly states there that it is prohibited for you to live in it. If you are caught staying there after operation hours then the owner can call a police and you will be charged or arrested as trespassing.
- You can be charged with vagrancy. Once the owner finds out that you are living in your rented storage unit he can call the police and gets you arrested for vagrancy. You’d be lucky to have a police officer escort you while you pack your things up in the storage unit.
- No Bathroom facilities. Basically, a storage unit is just a box with no windows and bathroom facilities. What if you badly need to use the bathroom where can you go? You would have to go out and find a bathroom near you.
- You can be locked out of your unit. The owner of the storage unit can put a lock on your storage unit and refuse you entrance if he finds out that you inhabited the unit.
- The owner of the unit has the right to sell your stuff. Once you missed your rent and you cannot pay the fees the storage unit can sell your stuff after 3 months or depends on your local laws.
If you come to think of it a storage unit may sound cheap and affordable but it is not liveable and comfortable. I suggest rather than thinking of renting a storage unit to live why not look for a used RV; it is cheaper and more liveable if you do not want to rent an apartment or a house.

A storage unit is a commercial space and not residential. So |

Doing that would be illegal. Doing that would not do you any good. |
