Old furniture
By Michael
We recently moved into a rented flat, as part of our rental agreement we requested a Fridge as when viewing we noticed there was only a Freezer in place.
The landlord/agency moved in a Fridge/Freezer combo thats free standing which is fine and no complaints about that however the old Freezer was left plugged in in the kitchen in its old place under the worksurface.
We’ve spoken to the agency about this and they’ve said they can move it, however just spoke to them again today and found out that the Landlord refuses to get rid of the freezer.
So we’re now going to be stuck with unwanted/unused/uneeded Freezer for the rest of the tenancy (12 months) what are my options here?

Hi Michael! The freezer is included in the rent that you pay since you are renting the house furnished. By law, the landlord is not bound to move the old furniture for you unless your lease agreement says otherwise. But if that’s not in the lease agreement then your landlord may charge you if the furniture is not there because you moved it when you decide to move out. Remember that you are supposed to give back a property that is almost in the same condition as it was in when you moved in – with all the appliances and furniture in their original place. |
