Hello, I rented the house i’m in August of 2011.  I resigned the lease August of  2012.  The furnance (more than 20yrs old) started acting up in October…I called the landlord, he told me the best thing he could do was send someone out to look at furnance , but he was not going to pay to repair or replace. He stated that in the lease iam responsible for are repairs and maintainance. The guy he sent out was not a certified furnance technichian, I dont know what he did but the furnace began to heat again. The furnace went out again today…I dont know what are my rights as a tenant are under Indiana law. I didnot withhold any rent and all rent is uptodate.

Make sure you have not overused the furnace, as per the Indiana law tenants should comply with the obligations to use things such as Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, etc to its optimum level. if the problem is already before you moved in and furnance was giving the issue by and large when owner of the house installed it, then your rights to ask the landlord to fix the furnance problem is legit. Please don’t take this reply as legal help, if you need any help you can file a complaint with RPA.
