Front door
By ed
When I moved in the house, I pointed out to the landlord that the doorframe to the front door was broken. Now about 18 months later, the front door has had to be removed from it’s hinges, as the doorframe is completely ruined. The landlord claims that he does not have to fix this, it’s my responsibility. He claims he does not remember seeing it when I pointed it out. I looked up some of the regulations in my city, and it states this:
● Colorado Springs –
The Colorado Springs Housing Code requires that any dwelling with “extreme
deteriorated surfaces” such as peeling pain shall be repaired and repainted. Additionally,
all siding, masonry joints, windows and doors must be weathertight. The Colorado
Springs Housing Code is available under Chapter 6, Article 12 at:

The link doesnt work, but with the front door off the hinges, it’s no longer water tight. I’m afraid that if I press the issue, he’ll try to force me to move out, and keep my deposit (2x rent). Finding a property is next to impossible. To compound the issue, I’m in Afghainstan. I’m not military anymore, but I can’t leave my wife to find a place and move without me there. What do you suggest? Should I just suck it up and fix it on my dime?
