Charged for a broken window (not my fault)
By Spamball
HI. I have been living in my unit for only a couple months, but I found that my window was broken into by a large rock one night when I came home. It was obvious that it was some random person. Now my landlord is charging my to pay half of the cost to fix the window which screws me over because I’m barely making enough to go to school and live. They say its "in my lease." But I did some research into Nevada tenant rights and nowhere does it say I have to cover incidents like this. Can anyone help?

Sorry to hear of your broken window. That is always a bummer when you know it’s not your fault. What I would do is review your lease. See what it says against damages or repairs. Your least trumps Nevada Tenant Laws. Talk you your landlord. Tell him more about your financial situation. If he still insists that you pay, then ask him if you can make minimal payments at a time. If you really think that he is being unreasonable, you can always file a complaint against your landlord here, just copy and paste this into your browser. They do charge $35 to process the complaint, but if your landlord won’t work with you then they get a negative public record. Good luck! |
