Landlord not refunding security deposit

By Randy

My landlord has my security deposit of $350 and won’t refund it.  Its now been 6 weeks and well beyond my States 30 grace period.  I know I can sue my landlord– but for $350 it seems like its not worth the effort.

I found the RPA site and decided to file a complaint.  To be honest I don’t care as much about the money as much as I do about the principle of the matter.  The landlord shouldn’t keep my money just becuse he wants to.  I think its lame how landlords take advantage of security deposits.  At least I know he’ll now have a negative public record if he doesn’t resolve my new complaint with the RPA.
Anyone else needing to file a complaint; you can click on the "File Complaint" link and it will take you to the file complaint page.  But be warned there is a filing fee of $35.  For me; it was worth it just to know I’ve done something to stand up against my landlord.
