safety issue gas line
By sierra
I just moved into a townhome. I am a first time renter. My place is heated by gas, my stove as well as my water. When I smelled gas in my place last friday I checked all my outlets and came back empty handed. I called the gas company and they came out and inspected. I had a pilot light that was out, but upon further inspection they noticed that I had a flex line running from my laundry room to my water heater. The gas worker stated that it was unsafe and against code because the material is brittle and can tear easily. Since the line was next to my electric dryer it was a safety hazard and they had to shut my water heater off. They red tagged it and moved on.
I called my tenant and they didnt return my call, after two attempts the following day they returned my call and said that it was fixed and my hot water was back on. When I went to inspect it after work all they did was simply turn my water back on. They never replaced the line with piping as was advised and the flex piping is still there. I don’t want to live in unsafe conditions, what can I do?

File a complaint through RPA or talk straight to them that its against the code. Obviously they seem to not even care about it. |

If your landlord won’t do anything after you’ve informed him. You may look for a new place. Talk to your landlord if you can move out because you’re afraid of what might happen in the future while staying the complex. Check your lease if you can find a way to break your lease. |
