question..
By Miranda
I just recently moved into an apartment complex, and live on the first floor. We have only lived here for 2 months now but have already complained to the landlords about the 2 adults who live above us for the continuous stomping, dropping of heavy items, and slamming of the toilet seat. The landlord has said that they (the people above us) swear they don’t know what we are referring to because they do not stomp, however, they stomp so hard that it shakes our ceiling fan and items on our refrigerator. I have a 7 month old baby and they have woke her up numerous times from the noises. The apartments are fairly new, and when we looked at the apartment they assured us that the only noise we might hear would be water running in the pipes when water is in use, the floor squeking..the normal, typical things you expect to hear in an apartment. There are 3 young children who live beside of us and the only time I ever hear them are when they are playing on the porch or shutting their door. So I know that it is in fact unnecessary noises that are going on upstairs. In the lease there is a "peaceful living enviroment" section and there is also a rule that you are not to leave trash on the front porch and if there is an animal in the home, they must be on a lease when outside. The people above us always leave full trash bags on the porch and let their dog out without a lease or supervision. There is a rotting smell constantly in my kitchen, which i highly believe is from their trash on the porch because I clean throroughly everyday and I have stepped in dog poop a few times (which has lead to me accidently tracking it into my apartment). I have told the landlord all these problems, but she seems to be so shocked that this is going on because the people above me have lived there for 3 years and have never had previous complaints. I have even tried to tell the woman about this and she laughed in my face as a result. I just don’t know what to do anymore, but I know I can not live like this anymore and I find it unfair that the landlord is more or less taking their side on everything and not making sure that it is stopped. We don’t want to move out because we do like the place, however, I want to live peacefully..unannoyed..and I want my baby to be able to sleep at night. Is there anything that can be done?!
