bedbugs

By Renter-Cal

I recently found bedbugs in my apartment. I have been living here for years and never had any issue. I recently renewed the lease and the bedbug issue happened soon after this. The landlord sent the pest control promptly and its been a week now and the apartment seems relatively free of bugs. However they refused to cover the cost for this initially. After much negotiation they agreed to cover half the cost and asked me to pay up the remaining $190. I have paid it now, but am wondering if I should really be paying at all. Can you help?

Thanks,
Renter-Cal

Yeah, you should be paying some of it.

Hi Cal, I understand. Most tenants ask the same question everyday. I know that it is not your responsibility. It is the landlord’s responsibility to make sure that they maintain the apartment to be livable. So it’s not your responsibility and you shouldn’t have paid for it.
