Can my landlord really call me dumb?

By Ashley Oldenburg

In our lease it says I can request a pet deposit, so I called my landlord up when I decided I needed a puppy. I started the conversation by stating my position and my knowledge of keeping a dog. He responded with "That is the dumbest thing I have heard. Why would you be so stupid as to ask me a question like this?"

Can anyone else back me up in saying this is not how you are supposed to talk to your tenant?
He has also called me other names to my roommates and family members.

That is definitely not how you should be talking to your tenant. What a jerk! If it continues, I’d try confronting him.

If I where you I would inform your landlord not to talk to you in that manner. I would inform them that you do not want to be talk to like a child. You have to ask your landlord for permission for the pet and he may require despoit. Why would he call you dumb for asking that?.

If your landlord keeps on with the name calling (as you call it) he may be in violation with landlord-tenant laws as he (according to you) is creating a hostile environment.
