Bedbugs

By jackindabox

I have been living in this apartment home for 3 years now,

august 2009 we had bedbugs in our apartments out of nowhere,

management made us pay $400 for pest control company.

end of story.

sept 2010 bedbugs attack again out of nowhere, landlord sends Orkin to inspect and tells us they are going to charge us $1000.

I called another exterminator and they said they would do it for $450, quoted that to the management and orkin got ready to do it for $450.

Made us pack all our clothes in bags, empty dressers and closets, electronics. Pretty much packed but not moving. Comes and does treatment twice in a week.

We still saw a couple of bugs, called them again to retreat. And then the same day we get a notice, that our lease will not be renewed after november 2010 according to some clause 17 in our agreement and also blaming that we did not do good housekeeping according to orkin.

Can i legally do anything about this? or just wait till november and then move? Any suggestions would make me sleep right now.

I’ve had bed bugs too, so I get it!

I wouldn’t use Orkin, they are old school and use chemical treatments. I did the same thing and hired another big name extermination company only to find that they know NOTHING about bud bugs. They will tell you that they do, but unless they are set-up with Cryonite / or Heat Treatment; then they are set-up to to treat bed bugs. Harvard did a study and found that bed bugs are resistant to chemical pesticides. The bigger problem is that chemicals don’t kill the thousands of eggs that are hiding within the walls, bed frames, furniture etc. That’s why when you treat for bed bugs you will immediately see an improvement, but then after a few days when the eggs start hatching the infestation returns with full force. It may even take a few weeks before you notice the re-infestation, but they will be back.

Now you know why the bed bugs have returned. This little tid-bit of knowledge I just gave you cost me over $900 to figure out. After the 6th chemical treatment I knew something was up so I researched and researched and quickly discovered that chemical treatments are not effective. Now you know.

You have plenty of options when it comes to bed bugs. Just check out the following post: http://www.rentalprotectionagency.com/blog/renter/apartment-bed-bugs-1/ That should help yo understand your legal options.
