Kicked out & now deposit problems
By Stacy
Last month my boyrfriend and I received a letter on our door saying that we had 30 days to vacate the premises. The reason for this letter was because my boyfriend was playing music at around noon during the day. The upstairs neighbor complained because he has anxiety attacks (which we had no idea). For one, we know it isn’t illegal to play our music during the day and the volume was barely loud. This was our first and only complaint that we had recieved in the year that we have been there. This complaint had now gotten us kicked out. Just prior to that, we renewed our lease for 1 more year (no, we did not get the copy yet). This letter to vacate said that the complex would not renew our lease and would not let us live there month to month. Our lease was up on Aug. 1st but we had until the 15th to move out. We did move out on the first and handed our keys back on the 5th. We had repainted the walls, had the carpets professionally cleaned, clean the apartment from top to bottom. It looked better than when we had first moved in. I do have before and after pictures. Now they are trying to charge us for the carpets, a cleaning fee, blinds (which still looked brand new when we left), and rent from the 5th to the 15th. Is this legal in any way for the apartment to do this? What kind of action can I take?
