Property manager complaint

By Sulli

Upon returning from work one day, there were three young 7-yr old neighbor boys in my yard waiting for me.  They had been riding a kids motorized 4-wheeler and ran into my garage door, denting only the lower panel.
The owner of the 4-wheeler lives in the same complex area as I do.  The child riding the bike at the time of the accident, lives across the street.  The third child is the caretakers son.  Rather than leave the scene, the young boys waited in my yard to report the incident to me.  I immediately reported it to the caretaker.  Now the property manager has sent me a bill for a brand new garage door.  Shouldn’t the parent of the child who owns the 4-wheeler be responsible for the garage door?

I would think that the person that ran into the garage should be the responsible party. So whatever kid was driving the 4-wheeler should be responsible for the damage they caused to the rental. Now that you have the bill, I would take it to the parent of the child that damaged the door and ask for them to pay the bill.

I would refuse to pay it! Tell the landlord to bill the tenants responsible, including themselves. That crazy your landlord would send you the bill. I’d also file a complaint with the RPA, they should help you get to the bottom of this.
Good Luck!
