Vacation Property Refund
By Dianna
My family and I had signed a rental agreement to use a private owners vacation home in Panama City Beach Florida. Since the oil spill has gotten so close we decided to cancel our plans. Per our contract we would lose our Deposit of $500.00. We had already paid for our rental upfront of $2695.00.So in total we have paid her $3195.00. The Property owner/landlord is refusing to refund any of our money. She is stating that we cancelled less than 60 days before our rental time and we arent due a refund. I have had several people including a parralegal look at our contract and it does not state this in the contract anywhere. I need help in resolving this issue short of hiring an attorney and having to pay legal fees. Can you help with this issue? What is your advice?

Hi Dianna, I’m guessing you are new to the RPA… There’s no need to hire an expensive attorney to resolve this. You can just file a complaint with the RPA and they will assign an agent to investigate to get your money back. There is a minimal filing fee… can’t remember the actual amount– somewhere around $30. Now that’s some pretty cheap legal service. Here is a link to file your complaint: https://www.rentalprotectionagency.com/complaint_center_form.php That should do it for you! |
