Sulfur smell in water

By Rebecca

I took the place on a brief walk-through because I was desperate to get out of my old place, which was a smoking building even though I was told it was not. (This is a health issue for me). I asked about any issues I should consider, and was told the the pipes bang occasionally, and that the location (near 2 bars) is not always the quietest, but that the noise levels were greatly reduced in the bathroom. All true.

I was not, however, told that I was not permitted to use either of the two parking spaces dedicated to the building, or that the hot water smells of sulfur if you do not run it empty every day. Now, I’ve learned to live with the parking. But every time I decide to shower at the gym, or go away for the weekend, the sulfur problem comes back . To be frank water smells like rotten eggs What are my options? Should I buy a water testing kits ? I do plan to have a sit-down with my landlord – if I can ever find a time when he’s available – but I’d like to know what is the reason behind this sulfur smell in water?
