serious pest control problems

hello i just moved into my apartment on july 29 2011 after waiting a full week because they told me on july 21 2011 when i signed my lease after showing me model units and telling me of all there amenities i was amazed and the only difference should have been counter top colors in the units when i moved in or when they gave me my keys i had a list of problems that i walked thru with the supervisor of there maintenance the same night 5 hours later after everything id informed about was suppose to have been taken care of most was except my front door knob fell off and the door knobs that were installed they fell off that night as well. but aside from  he leaks and ripped and splattered painted carpet and small holes in celing i have a major concern for for the safety and health well being of my husband who has broncitous and my 2 year old son who has asthma of rats roaches termites ants and whatever else may b in this apartment complex what can i do to find out what im up against and how can i find out my own proof and documentation of this infestation problemn las night my husband and i were awoken by loud scrapping in the walls and lots of movement in the kitchen we found nothing but told leasing consultant today she informed us that we should maintain calmness when dealling with manager because shes hot headed and will go off if she feels her space is being invaded with questions problems etc. i dont feel comfortable here and ive been here 3 days now what can i do in this situation i really jus want to be in a pest free zone i dont want any face to face confrontations with rats.
