Problem with black mold
By debluv
I am in FL, and I moved into my apartment about 4 months ago. I have been coughing, sneezing, and blowing my nose since I got here. I was aware that there were problems with the roof before I moved in, but the management assured me that they were fixed. I asked them to change the a/c filter, and they did, but I was still sneezing. A couple months ago, I asked them to clean the ducts. I followed up several times, but they never did any more than changing the filter. A couple weeks ago, we had a very bad rain, and chunks started falling out of the ceiling in the laundry room. It also started leaking. The management said to wait until all the storms passed and they would fix the roof. Meanwhile, my respiratory issues have worsened. Last week, I noticed that black mold had begun to grow on the several of the vents. I reported the one in the bedroom, and maintenance told me it was rust and painted over it. I’m pretty sure they are lying, so I took pictures and collected samples. Can my landlord evict me if I inform them of black mold on walls? What should I do next? Should I do something for black mold removal on my own? Where can I get some information on how to kill mold?

No the landlord can’t evict you because of mold. have you told the landlord about the mold? How long have you notice the mold? How long have you lived at that apartment? |

My landlord knew about the black mold in my house and he still rented it. I’ve asked him to fix it , his reply was if you don’t like it move out. But he wants his rent. I have the rent, but myself and grandson as well as the upstairs tenent has been to the doctors and we all have upper respitory problems, and I have COPD and part of a lung removed. What can I do I don’t have money to put up for security deposits on a new place. |

I also rented from a apt mgr that absolutely knew without a doubt that she was renting an apt growing so much black mold its crazy. I know she knew, because the tenants that lived in this apt before us were moved to a different apt, and we were the next renters in line. My children are sick, my brother is sick, my mother cant even come visit and stay over night because she coughs and coughs the entire time. I am a working mother of 2 small children, I could never make enough money to move out and find a new place again. I dont want to tell her, and she tell me what she told other tenants… “Clean it with bleach” or ” Leave the windows cracked at least an inch at all times”… Or… try to move me 3 doors down where we all know there is the same thing only better hidden. What can we do? I have dr appts. for the kids tommorow morning, they have been constantly sick for at least 2 and a half months. I dont know what to do, but my kids health is being compromised, and I am so stressed out. thanks |

I have no idea if this is who I should be contacting but I figured I would give it a try. My family and I was renting a house in PA 1651 Banning Road Dawson PA 15428. We did this for seven years. During this time my wife brought it to the land lords attention on numerous occasions that there was black mold all over the upstairs and down stairs. It was in our bedrooms as well as the kitchen, living room and the basement. At no time did the land lords do anything about this. So My wife and I would wash it from time to time with Bleach to kill it. We finally moved out of the house in June of 2011 and approx 7 months later I developed pain on mr right flank. I left work on Wednesday Jan, 18 2012 and went to Westmoreland County Hospital. After running a few tests a 5 cm solid mass was found in my right kidney. More testing had to be done to confirm those findings and the findings where just that a 5 cm solid mass which the doctors are calling cancer. I went to my urologist and he want two other tests done. A bone scan and a lung scan. The bone scan came back no cancer. However the lung scan findings are as: Minimal fibrosis/scar in the lingula and left posterior costophrenic sinus. No acute infiltrate. Smooth noncalcified 3.6mm pleural based nodule left lower lobe, image 243′ Solitary smooth noncalcified pleural based nodule left lower lobe measuring 3.6mm in sie. Most likely representing subpleural lymph node or noncallcified granuloma. These findings could have been a direct result of the black mold in that house. Please contact me and point me in the right direction. Lee Ulery |
