moving out before i got to move in
By irritated
I recently started looking for an apartment when a friend told me about a rental that her "parents" had. She said it was smallish but a nice two bedroom apartment sounded perfect for my daughter and me. Went and looked at it and really liked the apartment but also her mom, she and I agreed that I wouldnt pay a lease as long as I cleaned the apartment so that she wouldnt have to. When I looked at the place the previous tenents had left some furniture two couches a desk and a hutch as well as some dishes. She asked me if I would be needing any of it and I said no, she said that they would get them out. She also informed me that the shower head was missing so she would get me a new one
So when I started to move my things in I notcied all the furniture was still in the apartment, I called my landlord and asked her what she wanted me to do with all of it, she simply said just move it out and do what ever with it take it to the trash or the goodwill. NOT what I had agreed on but my friend and I tried to move the couches out, we succeed with one but the other couch was a hide a bed couch and weighed to much for us to even try to lift.
When I signed my lease I didnt recive a copy of it or a key to my apartment, so I had just been leaving it unlocked. this last Saturday I had someone to help me move so we went to the apartment and it was locked, since i had never gotten a key I called the woman who I had met and thought was my land lord, she didnt answer so I called her daughter whom was my friend to ask her what I should do. She said she would call her brother and he would be over in about ten or fifteen minutes. I sat outside my apartment for an hour before he came, he also didnt have a key so he used a cc and broke into my apartment not before telling me I needed to carry a spare key. And when I said I had never recived a key he acted like he didnt hear me.
Then he informed me that he was my landlord and I was to only deal with him, that he had left all that furniture in their because he didnt know what I needed. He was very rude and disrespectful.
it has been three weeks the couch is still not out nor the desk or the hutch and the dishes. I still have no shower head and I have not spent one night their because I cant put my bed and my daughters crib in one room and the couch is in the other room so I cant put her crib in their.
What I want to know is do I have the right to say I want my rent back and move out. This is an unliveable situation I have called and asked for his help and never hear back from him.
