move-in inspection never completed and now moving out

By Jen

I moved into a house a year ago and the property manager was very inexperienced. Despite my efforts to have him complete a move in inspection with me, this was never done. Now I’m moving out and I want to know if the property manager has any right to the security deposit I gave him a year ago. I’ve heard from friends that if a move-in inspection form was never completed, he has no right to this money… is this true?

Hi, I understand your concern. In this case, if you haven’t completed your lease then the landlord has the right to withhold your security deposit if you dont pay for the penalty. however if you break the lease early because the lease was violated by the landlord then you may take your security deposit.
