Dealing with mold problem
By Zach
I’ve been renting for about 7 months now. I have a mold problem. I first saw the mold about a month ago and mentioned it to our management company. They said “just clean it with bleach. If it comes back, we’ll have somebody come out to look at it.” Everything I’ve read says bleach takes care of what’s seen, not the whole problem. I have a 3 month old baby in the house also. We’ve decided to move in with my in-laws for the time being because we feel it is unsafe to live there. My wife and I have also been showing symptoms from the mold. What should I do? Should I go ahead and bleach it and wait for it to come back? Is there a company i can call to come out and inspect it before/after? I should atleast take pictures and document everything, right? A friend of mine even told me to cut out a piece of the wall and take it somewhere to have it tested. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, since it is a mold, you may clean it up as instructed by your landlord. However taking the wall off is also a great suggestion . if it comes back then inform your landlord again so he can resolve this issue. If the landlord wont take any action please remember that you can file a complaint. |
