Late fees on Late fees

This week we accidently paid rent a day late. We forgot that we still had the money order until the next day. We incurred the original fee on that day then another the next day I assume for not paying the late fee. Unfortunately we only had enough for rent and must wait several days before we can pay it. I’m under the impression that they may want water to be paid as well even thought it is not due till after we get paid. This adds up to 98$ plus however many extra days we have to wait for money. Is this a common practice to charge late fees on late fees?
