Landlord wont give me the key to the mailbox
By 4Geist
I signed a lease with the landlord that stated I wont get a mailbox key(big mistake). The lease expired 2 years ago and I’m still renting from him. I’m in a tough financial situation that’s putting things on hold as far as moving goes. My question is, now that the lease expire, what legal rights do i have in order to optain the key for the mail? The other question is, he’s "trying to sell the apartment" while me and my roommate are still living there, so he’s constantly bringing people to view the apartment and he’s scheduling them at 10:30am. This is incredibley intrusive and really oboxious in my opinion, are there any laws protecting me from this behaviour? In general he is very obnoxious and I’ve called 311 several times on his parents who were "roommating" with me at some point because they were screaming at 2am despite me confronting them and telling the landlord(their son). I’m a very responsible tenant, I pay rent on time, clean up after myself and for the most part keep to myself.

That’s a tight situation that you are in. Even if your old lease says that you won’t get a key to your mailbox, you need to check your state tenant laws about it. I know USPS sets the rules when it comes to mails so you need to check with them. With regard to the showings, unfortunately, that’s a part of the selling process. You may request to your landlord to schedule the showings at a more convenient time for you but it’s not necessary that your landlord will follow your suggestion. Are you getting prorated rent with your landlord’s parents living with you? If nothing happens, you can file for a formal complaint. RPA has that option. |

Thanks Mike, so my rent can be prorated if the landlord parents live with me and another roommate? I’m not renting the place, I’m just renting a room. Anything else I can do to give myself a little more breathing room in this situation until i find another place to move? |
