Hello, I am a mature woman but new to renting. I have move into a house with a friend who was living there previously and his friends moved to another state. I rent upstairs, he rents downstairs and we share a kitchen. He was aware that the refridgerator was not keeping food cold enough and complained to his friends but no one told the landlord. He told me about the problem when I moved in so I reported it to the landlord who said that the couple that moved out had actually purchased this fridge to replace the one that had been damaged in a fit of rage. At first the landlord said she was not reponsible for the fridge however stove and fridge is included. The "frost free" side by side had iced up in the back of the freezer and they told me to defrost it, let it sit 24 hrs then plug back in. The freezer is now freezing ice cubes but the refridgerator section hovers between 38-40 and will not go any lower, indeed goes higher as soon as door is opened. I complained and landlord has told me since the end of June that they would look for a new fridge. On July 3rd, it was 42 degrees and they assured that they would try to have one for me in the next couple days.  Today is July 5th, temp is between 38-42 and landlord says that is ok, that I do not want anything to freeze. I had him hold while I googled the desired temp for refridgerators which said 36-40. I have already had vegetables go bad and if I accept this now then I will be responsible for the refridgerator if it breaks down because the lease reads that I have to maintain the appliances. What can I do?
